Between Local Demand And Industrial Growth: The Challenges Facing Côte d'Icoire In The Transformation Era
Senouin Christelle Raïssa Gongbe
This study examines the impact of manufactured goods consumption behavior on industrial development in Côte d'Ivoire. From the QUAIDS demand system using survey data from the EHCVM (2018). These data provide important insights into consumption trends, in the post-economic crisis period. The results show that low-income households are most likely to increase their consumption of manufactured goods as their income rises, followed by the middle class. Wealthier households, on the other hand, seem to be more inclined to consume durable and luxury manufactured goods. Moreover, the results indicate that higher income is associated with a reduction in the share of the budget allocated to basic manufactured goods. These trends underscore the importance of adapting industrial policies to the specific needs of each income group, thereby promoting more inclusive economic growth.
